P 3.2-6 Determine the power supplied by each voltage source in the circuit of Figure P 3.2-6.

 

Answer: The 2-V voltage source supplies 2 mW and the 3-V voltage source supplies –6 mW.

To determine the power supplied, we need to find the current supplied by each voltage supply.  Using the currents produced by the three current supplies, we find the following:

As shown the voltage supplies deliver or supply power if the current goes as directed.  Note however, the 3 V source has a negative current, so the voltage supply is absorbing power not supplying power, so it should be negative.
