P 3.4-7 Determine the value of the current i in the circuit shown in Figure P 3.4-7.

All elements are in parallel, so we can redraw circuit to get one current source and two resistors in parallel.  One resistor is the 3 so we can find the current in it.  The other is the effective resistance of the other resistors added in parallel. 

 

The effective current source is 2 A + 1.5 A – 0.5 A since the 2 and 1.5 A sources go to the left and the  0.5 A goes to the right.  We have a single 3 A source going to the left.

 

 

So   so the effective  circuit looks like

So now we just do current division, note the defined direction of i is going to be negative since the current source would push the current the other way.
