First we need to combine the 4 resistors on the right side of the circuit to get an equivalent circuit.  The two parallel resistors can be replaced by  , that means the equivalent resistor is 2.5 R or

Now return to original circuit and the  current now gets divided.  But since the two branches have equal resistance, the current is split in half.
